If there was ever any hope of understanding what needs to be fixed in the health care system, this election isn’t going to do it. Honestly, look at what has gone before now. We have mandatory health insurance for 2014 and a variety of other things, like health insurance exchanges, and yet the costs keep rising. You can bet the health system and the insurance industry will make sure they still line their nests with money. Where does that leave you and me? Standing out in the cold, wondering what is coming next, how much it will cost, how they will pay for it, what policies will they be able to get, who will enforce the fine for not having insurance, and whether or not any of this stuff is constitutional. Good question. Do you think it is? If you don’t think so, make sure your local politician hears about it. Your vote still carries power.

No surprises in this election campaign relating to health care. Once again it is the whipping boy. The program everyone trots out to highlight their successes – sort of – because most politicians, until they get voted in, are pretty cautious talking about health issues. It’s a major hot button with Americans, in particular the mandatory health insurance provision to be implemented in 2014. Unfortunately, health care is a political issue because there are far too many people who make money from the system, and since money rules, that is likely the way it will stay in some form or another. Even with mandated health insurance, someone will make buckets of money. It sure won’t be Joe America, struggling to put food on the table. There is something inherently wrong with that picture. Think carefully before you cast your vote.

Not having health insurance does not save you money. You only think it does. What happens if you get into a car accident tomorrow, which isn’t such a far-fetched scenario, and you need surgery and a long recovery to be able to walk again? You do not have health insurance, because you were saving the money for something else or thought you did not need it.

So who will pay your medical bills? Or more to the point, how will you pay your medical bills? No one has that kind of money lying around or stashed in their mattress. Without health insurance, you will be in debt for months, if not years. How have you saved money by not having health insurance? You haven’t, and that’s the hard, cold truth.

No matter how many times people think this, they often do the opposite. What is it? They think about calling a local insurance agent at a smaller company, but instead, call a big name insurance company because they think they will get better service and pricing. This is not always the case. In fact, the bigger the company, the less engaged they are with their customers in not only the same state, but in another state too.

If you ever want to try and settle the insurance claim, try dealing with an out-of-state insurance company who does not know you and could really care less about you, unless you don’t pay your premiums. Local is the way to go.

Agents know their regional areas and who is the best person to see for various things. They also know who pays claims and who doesn’t and which hospital is better and closer to you. If you live in Pennsylvania, and buy insurance out of a company in Florida, they have no clue where your nearest hospital is.
