Health Insurance Debates Interesting but Not Always Useful

Any time you have ever been involved in a debate over the current health care system since the advent of health care reform, you come away feeling more confused and frustrated than ever. While everyone seems to have ideas, no one knows how to go about making any difference in the long-term. Sure there are changes in the wind, but you wonder if they will actually “do” what they are intended to do. Debates are great, but rarely are there answers on either side.

Well, now that health care reform is officially “here,” you have to wonder what is coming next. Will mandated health insurance fly? Will insurance companies do their part and not charge people and arm and a leg for health insurance? Will everyone really have to have health insurance by 2014 and if so, how is that going to be enforced? So many questions, and not enough answers. What do you think?

The $54 Million Health Insurance Quotes Question

If the price of health insurance quotes will actually go up as some industry analysts suggest may be the case, then how is that going to help the millions of Americans who don’t have health insurance plans now? The answer is it won’t help them, because if they can’t afford a health insurance plan “now” then they won’t be able to afford one later either.

Furthermore, since health care reform was intended to level the playing field for everyone to be able to get health insurance, if insurance companies jack the prices up to recoup their projected losses, how does that affect the intention and actuality of health care reform? It seems that insurance companies don’t want to play their part in keeping the nation healthier and reducing medical expenses, but are definitely interested in making “more” money on the backs of those who need health insurance.

Ask yourself this question as well: “If mandated insurance does become a reality, and people are forced to buy health insurance, where is the money going to come from to ‘pay’ for the health insurance?”

Health Insurance Plans Recommended by Agents

There is nothing wrong with buying a health insurance plan recommended by an agent. It might be just the thing you need. The problem is that if you do accept a recommendation at face value and don’t do some of your own checking, you might find that you have a policy that doesn’t really suit you and it costs more than you wanted to pay. This isn’t to say that the agent did a poor job; it just means that they don’t totally know “you,” but, you do know what you want. Knowing what you want and need is one of the smartest moves possible when it comes to buying health insurance plans. After all, it’s your body, your health and your money, so you will want something that fits your budget, addresses your health requirements and keeps the body running.

Ultimately, you need to delve deeper into what plans are recommended to you. They may suit you and they may not, but if you take the time to find that out, then you won’t be wondering what you may have missed out on that might have been less expensive and covered more.

Instant Health Insurance Quotes a Little Like Bingo

It’s nice to know instantly if you qualify for health insurance. Instant health insurance quotes also provide approximate premium prices.

It’s becoming a world where it is ultimately crucial that you and your family have health insurance; affordable health insurance. If you want that kind of information quickly, after all we are in the age of instant this and that, then accessing instant health insurance quotes will let you know within seconds if you qualify for a health insurance plan and what the costs may be. Leave the work of quoting to the health insurance website, because it means more time for you to do what you really want to do instead of searching for affordable health insurance.

There are a whole lot of people out there that are working harder and longer than ever before and making less to show for it. What they are making, they stash away for their children’s future. They don’t think they can afford any type of health insurance plans. More to the point is this question: “Can they afford ‘not’ to have a health insurance plan?” The answer is: “No, they can’t afford ‘not’ to have health insurance.” Not in today’s world of high cost medical care for everything from soup to nuts. Even a broken leg may run to $20,000; money most people don’t have on hand.

The bottom line here is that having good health and keeping it, is critical for you and your family. If you don’t have your health, chances are you will run the risk of losing what savings you do have to pay medical bills that could have been covered by your health insurance plan. Health is wealth and “means” wealth if you can keep working and stay healthy – with the assistance of a health insurance plan.

In other words, if you don’t want to be in the situation where you have to declare medical bankruptcy, then you need to be checking out health insurance quotes. Before you get started, know what kind of health insurance you want for you and your family.

Once you have a good idea of what that is, hit the Internet and do some online searching for an insurance website that provides instant health insurance quotes. Instant health insurance quotes are a bit like playing Bingo – under the ‘A’ for affordable health insurance, under the ‘H’ for health insurance plans and health insurance quotes.

The whole idea in sourcing instant health insurance quotes is to let you know right away what is out there and what you qualify for in terms of health insurance plans. Knowledge is power; make it work to your advantage.

Health Insurance Pricing a Conundrum

Since health care reform “is here” and more changes will be coming, one of the biggest questions people are asking relates to the price for their health insurance plans. That seems to be up in the air, as one side of the great debate says the prices will be lower because the competition will be stiff. If insurance companies want more business, they will have to price their policies cheaply to attract customers.

On the other side of the debate are those that say the prices will go up because the insurance companies will want to pass on their “losses” to the consumer. What does that mean? It means with health insurance companies taking a hit in the medical loss ratio of 80%, that health insurance companies may raise their prices to hedge their bottom line.

The market is still in flux right now and no one is sure what will happen by the end of the year, but one thing is for sure, it’s going to be interesting to see how the pricing structure shakes out.

Is a Higher Deductible Better?

On one hand, some health care industry analysts say that a higher deductible is a good idea because it keeps your premium costs lower. That’s true, higher deductibles do keep your premiums lower. But, what if you happen to always be sick because you have a chronic condition that needs medical care frequently? Well, if you happen to always need medical care for your condition, you might just prefer to pay a higher monthly premium and know you are covered for all contingencies.

It’s a great debate and there are good points to be made on each side. The thing most of the industry analysts seem to be forgetting is that what you choose is a personal choice and that choice will reflect what works for “you.” So, while it’s nice to have other opinions, the bottom line is you will choose what you need to choose to have it work for you.

Why You Need as Much Information as You Can Get on Health Insurance Quotes

While it’s nice to know how much a health insurance policy may cost us, there are so many “other” things that we don’t know. For instance, what about exclusions? Do you know if the policy you want to buy will cover things like x-rays or pre-existing conditions? You need to find out. Furthermore, is there a coverage level or limit for each item? You need to know that as well. All of these things are valuable information to help you buy the “right” health insurance plans for you and your family. If you only find out part of what you need to know, you might find yourself in a sticky situation later when something you “assumed” was covered, isn’t. Not only is that embarrassing, but it could wind up costing you big bucks.

Take the time to find out what you are buying when it comes to health insurance, then you won’t have any nasty surprises later.

Health Insurance Quotes Are the Tip of the Iceberg

Health insurance quotes are just the tip of the iceberg. Getting a quote does not tell you what is in the policy you may want or what is “not” in the policy you may want. It only tells you that you are eligible for health insurance based on some criteria you responded to when you asked for a quote. Really, you need to know more before making a buying decision.

Other things you need to know, besides the price of the policy, are what is included, what is excluded, what the co-pays are, what the deductibles are and – well, you get the idea, you need to do your homework and thoroughly cover your bases. Be sure you are getting what you really do need and want when it comes to a health insurance plan. No sense spending good money to get a policy that won’t cover you for something you “need” it for in the first place. This is one of the major reasons that you need to ask as many questions as you can when choosing a health insurance policy.

What Should It Be HMO or PPO or Something Else?

Since we’re talking about choices, there are a couple of them that you could consider: HMOs and PPOs. Again, each of these plans offers something different, and your choice will largely depend on what you “want” at the end of the day when it comes to health care options. For instance, the HMOs are fairly cheap, but restrictive – meaning you can only use the doctors in their network. That might work for you, and then again, it might not. If you go out-of-network, it will cost you big bucks to pay the doctor, plus you have to report to your primary care specialist. They also have a rep of denying more claims than they pay.

PPOs give you access to more doctors, and that includes specialists. You can get referrals and that comes in handy when you need that specialist. You don’t need to report to your primary care doc either. Does this come with a higher price tag? Yes, it does, but if that is what you want, it may well be worth it.
